Product Rationale
In facilities handling combustible dusts or powders, interconnected equipment creates shared volumes where an explosion can propagate. A primary event in one unit, like a mill or mixer, can channel flames through ducts to silos or filters, triggering devastating secondary explosions. An explosion containment shutter valve is installed to act as an automatic fire door within these ducts. Its function is to slam shut upon detecting an explosion, containing the blast effects within a defined zone and preventing escalation.
This safety device is a purpose-built isolation mechanism for pneumatic conveying and ventilation systems in hazardous areas. It is designed to automatically close and seal a duct, preventing the passage of explosion flames and pressure to protect downstream assets.
Principal Attributes
Rapid Explosion Confinement: Engineered to detect the initial shock front of an explosion and command full closure within a remarkably short timeframe, physically containing the event.
Durability in Demanding Service: Fabricated from materials chosen for strength and corrosion resistance, suitable for the challenging environments of mining, woodworking, chemical, and food processing.
Compact and Service-Friendly Design: The valve's configuration allows it to fit into standard ductwork and provides access points for inspection of internal components without full disassembly.
Integration Potential: For system monitoring, the valve can be equipped with position indication micro-switches, allowing its status to be displayed on a control panel.
Assured Isolation Performance
The valve's effectiveness is validated by its ability to close before the arrival of the explosion flame, a critical factor for isolation. This performance aligns with the principles of explosion protection, ensuring that an incident in one protected segment does not endanger adjacent areas.
Reliability for Continuous Protection
Built with a focus on mechanical simplicity and robust materials, the valve is designed for long-term, maintenance-free readiness. Its reliable operation is a cornerstone for managing dust explosion risks.
Unobstructed Airflow During Normal Operation
Under standard conditions, the blast gate is retracted, offering a clear, unimpeded path for air and material flow. This ensures the valve does not become a bottleneck or source of unwanted pressure drop in the system.

Working Sequence
The valve operates by sensing the precursor pressure wave of an explosion. A pressure sensor, strategically located, monitors for a rapid rise in pressure. When a preset threshold is exceeded, it sends a signal to trip the holding mechanism. The blast gate is then released and driven closed, typically by a spring or gravity. Upon reaching the closed position, a mechanical lock snaps into place, securing the gate against the force of the explosion.
After an event, once the area is declared safe, the valve can be manually reset to its open position. A visual inspection for damage and a check of moving parts are recommended. During normal operation, a low-energy magnetic or mechanical hold-open device keeps the gate retracted.

Guidance for Use and Upkeep
Pre-Operational Verification: It is imperative to check that the valve's blast gate is fully open and the mechanism is free before starting any associated fans or conveyors.
Scheduled Inspection Protocol: Establish and adhere to a regular inspection routine, minimally on a monthly basis, to ensure the valve remains in a state of operational readiness.
Testing Following Maintenance: After any service activity, perform a manual closure and reset test to verify the entire mechanism functions correctly and the gate seals properly.
